How To Make Affirmations Work For You In 4 Easy Steps

Affirmations are a fantastic technique used by many of the most successful people on the planet.  People who are well-known for using affirmations on a daily basis include Jim Carrey, Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith

Arnold Schwarzenegger is also known for using affirmations to help inspire and motivate him. He once said, “I had this fixed idea in my mind of growing a body like Reg Park’s. The model was there in my mind; I just had to grow enough to fill it,” he explained. “The more I focused on this image and worked and grew, the more I saw it was real and possible to be like him.”

Affirmations, like goal setting and visualisation, can have a fantastically positive impact in your life. If you’re already practicing it but don’t feel that you’re seeing any results, you’re probably doing something wrong. Not to fear though!

Here are my 4 easy steps to make affirmations work for you:  

1)      Repetition of the vision.

Success and consistency are very much interlinked. Finding success in your life through affirmations will take more than one big step, you need to be practicing the technique every day. You can’t just do it and forget about it.

The comic strip creator Scott Adams used to write down his affirmations 15 times per day! You have to be the same if you want this technique to work for you. Once per day should be your minimum.

To get good at something and to begin seeing results you must practice daily. Soon it will become a deeply rooted habit and you will begin to see results. Many people will practice once every few days, but if you’re serious about being extraordinary in your life, you need to be extraordinary in your practice, that means putting in more effort than anyone else.

Think of your affirmations as being as important as any other aspect of your business and you will soon begin to see results.

2)      You need to feel it!

You need to ‘feel’ your affirmations; this is vitally important. Many people who practice affirmations don’t truly feel them; they are doing them for the sake of doing them.

Affirmations have to be more than a surface level pleasure-seeking activity in order to truly inspire your soul and focus your mind. Using words within phrases such as, “I am happily earning” or “I am confidently succeeding in X” will allow you to truly feel what that will be like. Doing this will reset your brain.

You might think that this sounds like nonsense, but ‘feeling’ it really is imperative to the process, and here is why. There is scientific evidence to prove that affirmations, similarly to prayer, actually change the brain on a cellular level. In other words, what you think about matters, and there is a vast amount of evidence to prove that your thoughts have a direct connection to your health. Your brain will literally release negative and positive chemicals into your body based on how you feel. Thoughts become organised into a ‘neuro-set’ or ‘pattern.’ For example: Love is stored in a large neuro-set which is created on the basis of many thoughts and experiences which the person has encountered in relation to love. This is why some people will always associate something such as love, which most associate as a positive, with negative connotations such as disappointment or loss.

In short, brain cells that fire together will wire together, and the more you feel a certain way, the more those cells will develop a long-term relationship.

So it doesn’t really matter what your affirmations are, but they will only manifest in your life if you bring feeling into them. By doing this, you will be able to better programme what you desire into your subconscious mind.

3)      Believe and receive.

This is an incredibly important part of the affirmation process. To receive, you must truly believe that you’re going to receive what you’re visualising. The thing is, if you don’t truly believe in your affirmations, you don’t truly believe in yourself. Your affirmations are merely an extension of your goals, they stand hand in hand.

You need to absolutely without a shadow of a doubt 100% believe that you’re going to receive and achieve everything you desire, and have the confidence in yourself that you’re going to go out there and do whatever it takes to get it.

I know that sometimes things can appear bleak, but if you truly programme your mind to believe in your affirmations whole-heartedly, I can promise that things will begin to turn out differently for you.

4)      Commitment and action.

Finally, like with all things, you must put in the action as well as the belief. Merely doing your affirmations is completely futile if you don’t put in the effort to actually progress from your current position. The world simply doesn’t work that way.

Become determined with your affirmations because they truly work. The evidence is there! Get going with your affirmations, use visual cues to help you, use whatever works for you.
